"The academic tutors at New have recently completed the courses you are undertaking and they strive to provide you with assistance and direction to succeed in your course."
JOSHUA FROM BROADBEACH WATERS, QLD - STUDIES COMMERCE - COMMERCE TUTOR
Some of my best moments of high school were grounded in forming close friendships, fulfilling leadership roles and exploring every interest. The transition to university life was intimidating, not just because it meant moving away from home, but it also presented the fear incumbent in leaving behind all those existing groundings. However, coming to New I was presented with all the opportunities I had hoped for and more. Whether you’re an actor or musician, sportsperson or politician there is every opportunity for you to follow your interests at New.
Personally I was attracted by the two productions run by students each year. Enjoying the behind the scenes theatrics of school productions – primarily run by staff – I was eager to see what a team of likeminded students could create. When I produced my first play at New in 2010 I was simply blown away at the wealth of diverse talents New Collegians possessed and their ability to dress, spotlight and promote a show, all whilst completing a degree full time. This ability for students to balance their academic and social commitments is in part aided by the academic support offered by the College. Learning at university is so different to learning at school and this can be a shock for students. However, as a first year student at New I was quickly introduced to my peers studying my course and the tutor who would hold regular tutorials to ensure we were prepared for assessment. As a third year, now holding a role as a tutor, I can relate to the areas of difficulty faced by students and I strive to provide guidance to all commerce students in helping them fulfil their course requirements.
