"New college helps you try new things and find out what it is you are good at."
JESSICA FROM THE BLUE MOUNTAINS, NSW - STUDIES MEDICINE - LEAD ACTRESS IN 2011 NC MUSICAL
Living in New College is like having a home away from home. Your family and friends are all mixed into one here and it provides a safe environment to try new things. This year I have lived off $2 a day for a week in 'Live Below the Line', I've played touch football and netball and I've had a chance to be a part of the New College musical. The musical was one of the best times I have ever had in College and I made some awesome friends. It was quite scary as it was my first production in which I had a part where I was on stage practically the whole time. But it was so much fun getting to know people and putting all our efforts into something that paid off so well with a good performance. I would definitely do it again!
I think living at New College is not just about what the College provides for you. I could just live here, lock myself in my room and it would be like any other accommodation. But when you put effort into getting involved, that is when you get the full experience that New College has to offer. New College is not just about being close to uni (although it is good being able to get up 15 minutes before lectures). It's not about having food cooked for you and your room cleaned (which is awesome as well). It is about learning independence by giving you a new home and opportunities to express yourself. It helps you find out what it is that you are good at while making you question who it is you want to be and what experiences you want out of life.
