The Stuart Barton Babbage Fellowship (postgraduate students only)
The Stuart Barton Babbage Fellowship is available for residents undertaking a doctorate or who are undertaking postdoctoral work. This Fellowship has been created to support the scholarship of an outstanding man or woman who is pursuing doctoral studies or post-doctoral research at UNSW. It is named in honour of the late Rev Dr Canon Stuart Barton Babbage, AM, who was the second Master of New College.
New College aims to build character in each individual who becomes part of the New College Village community. We encourage residents to seek academic excellence, serve one another and make contributions to the wider community.
The College offers the Stuart Barton Babbage Fellowship award to:
- support the growth and development of a promising scholar;
- gain benefit from the involvement of the fellow in the life of the NCV;
- strengthen the academic culture of the NCV through the work of the fellow and his/her support of, or involvement with younger residents;
- enrich the NCV community in accordance with its stated Mission.
Applicants will need to demonstrate Collegiality; Academic Excellence and Service to Society. Research can be undertaken within any UNSW discipline.
Applications will also be considered from Masters (Research) students.
The expectation is that the fellow would reside in the New College Village community for at least 48 weeks and play and active role in the academic and social life of the NCV. The fellow would be expected to exercise leadership within NCV including speaking at College functions, lead events for post-graduate students at NCV and be involved in a wide range of NCV activities. They are also eligible to apply to become Senior Residents and to lead or be part of the Academic Tutoring team at NCV. Recipients will be required to report formally at mid and end of semester to the Dean with a statement of their contribution to NCV and the broader community.

Please provide a cover letter outlining your academic research area and how it will serve the wider society. Please also outline how you have demonstrated collegiality and service to society and how you see yourself contributing to the community life at NCV. You will need to attach your CV, academic record and list any publications you have.
