A Midsummer Nights Dream

A Midsummer Nights Dream

The New College play A Midsummer Night's Dream was held 17th –19th May, 2007. It received popular acclaim, many laughs and applause. The production continued the nineteen year tradition of New College annual amateur dramatic productions. It was an entertaining and amusing production. The acting and production was of the highest standard.

A Midsummer Night's Dream is a romantic comedy written by William Shakespeare in the 1590s. It portrays the often absurd adventures of four young Athenian lovers and a troupe of amateur actors, their interactions with the Duke and Duchess of Athens, Theseus and Hippolyta, and fairies who inhabit a moonlit forest. The play is one of Shakespeare's most popular and is performed often across the world. This full scale production was a great success incorporating a cast of 22, an orchestra of 20 and a crew of more than 60 people responsible for backstage, set design, technical, make up, costumes, props, set design/construction, publicity and front of house. The musical was produced entirely by the New College Students Association with all participants being resident members of New College. Amongst the audience there was a strong Alumni presence, as well as present parents and family members. The more than 100 people who made up cast, crew, publicity & front of house team, production & technical assistants, backstage team, directors and producers were justified in receiving generous applause and expressions of admiration from the more than 500 people who attended the final production over three nights.
