2018 Annual Appeal
As we move towards the 50th Anniversary of the opening of New College in 2019, there will be increasing pressure on New College scholarships and bursaries. I write to you now to give you opportunity to help support outstanding New Collegians of the future.
Next year, the University of New South Wales will make a significant shift from traditional academic semesters to a new UNSW3+ system. With the exception of the Faculty of Medicine, this will see undergraduate courses delivered over three terms between mid-February and mid-December. The entire academic year will expand from 38 weeks to 44 weeks, with two short breaks replacing the mid-year and mid-semester breaks.
College must reflect the UNSW3+ model and we continue to sustain and enhance the high quality community life offered at New College. The College Board and management are endeavouring to ensure that the cost of membership at New College remains as affordable and competitive as possible in this new environment. While we are aiming to put downward pressure on the weekly rate, the six additional weeks will mean an overall additional cost for New Collegians, especially for families who have siblings living with us.
It would be greatly appreciated if you are able to make a once-off tax-deductable contribution to our scholarship and bursary program. If weekly or monthly donations would suit you better, this can be arranged as shown in the attached brochure. As I have said before, I fully realise that not every one of our alumni or friends will be in a position to support our scholarship program financially at this time.
I attach a brochure which summarises some of the ways that present residents benefit presently from our scholarship and bursary programs.
If you have any questions about our scholarships and bursaries, the 2019 program, or our anniversary activities please do not hesitate to contact me.
