New College welcomes our 2015 Co-op Scholars

The UNSW Co-op program is the largest, oldest and most prestigious scholarship program of its type in Australia and has been designed by industry and UNSW to provide industry training, professional development, networking and financial support for selected undergraduate students (www.coop.unsw.edu.au).
Our incoming Co-op Scholars are:
Kirsten Hendriks (2014 Co-op scholar, joining New College in 2015)
Kirsten was born in the Netherlands and has lived in several different countries. Throughout her school career she was always focused on subjects like maths, science and logical thinking. During and after her Bachelor of Software Engineering at UNSW she hopes to create a positive impact on the world through technology as it rapidly advances and shapes future society. Her objectives for her Co-Op scholarship is to gain the industry experience she needs to pursue this goal via practical experience and developing social connections associated with her work.
After studying at Abbotsleigh for the past ten years Lizzie has commenced studies in Accounting and Business Management. Her ambitions for this scholarship are to be motivated to see end results, enjoy the challenges of change and acquire new skills through the integration of university life and corporate experience. She aspires to work in accounting, finance or banking consulting and ultimately to be the CFO of a larger organisation perhaps in the health, not-for-profit or fashion sectors.
Benjamin comes to us from Radford College in Canberra with a passion for technology, IT and Economics. After teaching himself a few programming languages, he has developed apps for mobile devices and designed websites. He aspires to manage IT projects to help make the world a better, more connected and more exciting place. His Co-op scholarship will enable him to get the best industry experience (3 placements lasting 6 months each with industry leaders) and to meet new and like-minded people who he hopes will become lifelong friends and future colleagues.
Madeline comes from a large family in Highfields (Queensland), graduating from St Ursula's College, Toowoomba in 2014. She enjoys playing the piano and baking. She would like be a management consultant being excited to see where the future will take her. As a Co-Op scholar, she will be networking with intelligent and like-minded peers and some of the most influential and noteworthy firms within the industry.
Xinyi has come to New College from China via Singapore and Melbourne. She graduated from the MacRobertson Girls High School last year seeing the need of actuaries in this present dynamic world. She is undertaking actuarial studies at UNSW specifically to be able to identify and mitigate high risk scenarios so as to assist companies and not-for-profits in making better investment decisions. Her ambition is to achieve social impact by providing not-for-profits with access to professional consulting services. Her Co-op scholarship will allow her to develop a professional network through the 15-month work placements and make highly motivated and like-minded friends.
Julian enjoyed the close-knit community of students and teachers at St Luke's Grammar School in Dee Why before coming to New College. At St Luke’s he played a leading role in mentoring: as a prefect, in public speaking and debating. He is currently studying Electrical Engineering with aspirations to work in robotics, bringing benefit to people’s lives and the functioning of society. He anticipates rapid development of robotics over the coming years. His Co-op scholarship will give him rapid access to the practical experience and working environments that are only available in industry.
