New College Celebrates Academic Success
The annual New College Commencement Dinner and Awards evening was held on Thursday the 9th March. Both alumni and current collegians joined together to share a meal in celebration of New Collegians’ academic achievements in the 2016 Academic Year.
Allen Zhou’s performance of “Wedding Day at Troldhaugen” Opus 65, No. 6, composed by Edvard Grieg, provided an entertaining interlude to the evening’s formalities and created the perfect ambiance for the introduction of guest speaker, Professor Merlin Crossley, Deputy Vice Chancellor (Education) at UNSW. Professor Crossley offered his views on technological developments in genetic research, such as the gene editing tool CRISPR, as well as a few tips for making the most of your time at university.
In true New College fashion, collegians posed probing questions to Professor Crossley regarding both his research and the universities plan for a trimester system. Professor Crossley provided reassurance to students over their concerns regarding the move to trimesters and was impressed by the calibre of the collegians enquires.
