Academic excellence continues at New College
New College is a supportive study environment. The College’s mission is to promote academic excellence, collegiality and service to the community. A significant percentage of college members are currently achieving at least a Distinction average. Historically around 40% of Collegians receive a distinction average each year. The College has a strong academic tradition with 3 Rhodes Scholars and 46 University medallists in its 35 year history.
Well excitingly we can now add 5 more University Medallists to this prestigious list of New College Alumni. Recently the 2004 University Medallists were announced by UNSW.
The honour role reads:
Hari Balakrishna - University Medal in Accounting
Rebecca Barnes - University Medal in Environmental Engineering
Ben Lavis - University Medal in Mechatronic Engineering
Emily McPherson - University Medal in Mining Engineering
Jacob Wood - University Medal in Process Metallurgy
19 New Collegians also won 22 major university awards and prizes in their respective academic disciplines for 2004.
Again this year there are 11 Academic Tutors on hand to assist 'New' students in their academic program. The College hopes the support and assistance provided will lead to further academic achievement.
