"New College is a fun loving community supportive of all things academic, sporting and social."
LUCY FROM MUSWELLBROOK, NSW - STUDIES INTERNATIONAL RELATIONS - SECRETARY OF THE STUDENTS' ASSOCIATION
I have loved living at New College due to the vibrant community atmosphere and the fun-loving university students that live here. The building is on the uni campus, which is so convenient, allowing collegians the chance to immerse themselves into university life – from clubs and societies to the ability to access the uni resources easily. Adjusting to life away from home is made easier with a weekly cleaning service and fully catered living. The friendly staff feed the hungry collegians breakfast, lunch and dinner and meal times are always a highlight when collegians meet up. The café is also really convenient for late meals or a much needed coffee. The catering has helped the focus shift from ‘where are my Masterchef skills?’ to the exciting social, sporting, cultural life and of course the academic.
The residents through various avenues organise the social life of New College. These include sub-committees where residents get involved in culture, music and community service. For example, CultureSoc trips to plays and galleries, Music Soc organising band nights, Commserv organising Oaktree’s ‘Live Below the Line’ and the Cancer Council’s Relay for Life. Also the executive team- the NSCA- aim to plan amazing fun from social events, such as college themed parties, to inter-college sporting competitions including hockey, netball, rugby, soccer, basketball and ultimate frisbee. The residents also put on two productions a year allowing music, drama, dance, technical, backstage and design to flourish. Basically if you have a strength or talent, you will find your own way to shine. It does not take long to feel comfortable in this awesome place and with supportive Resident Advisors adjusting to this new life is not difficult.
