New College has a number of meeting rooms that can be booked by residents at reception.
The Main Common Room (MCR)
The Main Common Room (MCR) on the ground floor is available for use by residents but is also used for official New College functions and as a venue for conferences. Residents often use the projector, big screen and sound system in the MCR to host movie nights. Academic tutors sometimes hold suppers and tutorials in the MCR. With permission from the College, residents may book the venue for gatherings related to their course or extra-curricular activities. The MCR is also used for College Services, as the auditorium for New College theatrical productions, Formal Dinners, displaying art exhibitions, music rehearsals and performances, dancing and limited indoor games/sport.
Meeting Room (MR)
The Meeting Room is located on the ground floor. With permission from the College, residents may book the venue for gatherings related to their course or extra-curricular activities. The MR is commonly used as a place for tutorials, group study, presentations and student meetings. The private kitchen located in the MR is available for the use of residents for cooking and may be booked for this purpose with the College.
The Pollard Room, which was formerly known as the Pollard Library, is named in honour of Rev Noel Pollard who was New College’s first Master. The room has been expanded out towards the Anzac Parade boundary and into the colonnade overhang below the upper-floors. This was a previously unutilised space. The natural light that streams in through a new wall of clear windows provides a good environment for New College students to meet for group and individual study. The larger room now functions (by booking) as a rehearsal space for musicians. The Pollard Room also retains a remnant of the previous library and continues to be used as a study room for residents.
4th Floor Meeting Rooms
Two meeting rooms are located on the 4th Floor of New College. These are primarily for use by residents for the purpose of study, group assignments, suppers and tutorials run by College tutors. 4th Floor MR-South is generally open for any residents use for study while 4th Floor MR-North can only be accessed with a prior booking with the College. Both rooms have a small kitchenette.
