New College was built for community and the group structure with group common rooms is an important feature in building the strength of community relationships. Each college group of 17 students (half male and half female) has its own common room, including a kitchenette. All common rooms face into the central courtyard providing a connection with the wider College community. The common rooms are places to relax and meet one another outside the private rooms. Most groups have a ‘group supper’ once a week, which is a good opportunity to connect with others in the group. The Resident Advisor Flats also have lounge rooms that are frequented by Collegians.
