New Collge provides UNSW student accommodation. Listed here are the accommodation options and facilities provided.
Bedrooms Options
Residents are accommodated in single rooms within a group of eight or nine rooms. Each group of rooms is linked to a common room with tea/coffee making facilities, a laundry tub and drier, and bathroom. A larger laundry is located on each floor. Each room has a single bed, desk and chair, bookshelves, and a built-in cupboard. Heating is centrally controlled under floor heating or wall mounted. Pillow, pillow cases, sheets and doonas are provided by the College, and are laundered each week. Rooms are also cleaned each week by the College. Ironing boards are provided, but residents need to bring their own iron. Each College room is equipped with a phone, and a data link to provide computer access services that includes free traffic within the University network.
Other Facilities
The College has a number of excellent areas that facilitate interaction between residents. These include:
- Main Common Room - used as a large lounge area, meeting room and theatre for Revues, plays and productions. The room has to be booked by residents through the office for large gatherings. The Main Common Room also has a grand piano which is available for use by musicians and is kept locked. Keys may be obtained from the office to use it for practice or productions.
- Music Room - contains an upright piano and other instruments.
- Television Room - contains a television, Foxtel connection and video/DVD equipment for the use of residents and their guests.
- Private Kitchen - can be used by residents for group activities. It is booked through the College office.
- Pollard Library - is a quiet area for reading, study and tutorial work.
- Resources Room – contains three computers with Internet access and word processing software, two laser printers and a photocopier.
- Meeting Rooms – there are two additional meeting rooms available to residents, one set aside for tutorials and the other for private study.
- Games Room - is an area for a variety of more active pursuits including pool and table tennis.
Dining Room
The Dining room provides 3 meals, 7 days a week, cafeteria style. There is provision for those who require late meals, and for those who have guests at meals. The menu is varied and offers a number of choices for lunch and dinner. A usual lunch consists of a hot dish, a choice of pasta, salads, soup, and breads. Dinner is usually a choice of two hot meat dishes, vegetables, potato, rice and a dessert. Vegetarian options are available if required and hot and cold drinks, and fruit, bread and condiments are available in the dining room throughout the day. A hot brunch is also served on Sunday mornings.
