A Fair Go For All ed. John Squires

A Fair Go For All: Current Issues in Australian Sports Ethics ed. John Squires (2000)

This volume grew out of a seminar A Fair Go For All: Current Issues in Australian Sports Ethics organised by the New College Institute for Values Research at New College, UNSW, in September 1999. It was held in conjunction with the 1999 New College lectures.

The invitation to the distinguished sport historian, Professor William J. Baker, to deliver the 1999 lectures, was prompted by the choice of Sydney as host city for the 2000 Olympic Games. At the time of his choice, corruption within the sporting movement was just beginning to emerge as a major concern in the international sporting communities and questions of ethics in sports were usually confined to the occasional drug scandal. Within a short period, all that changed, further revelations about corruption and unethical behaviour in the Olympic movement and in national and international sporting bodies led to calls for sports stars, teams and administrators to become more accountable.
