Meet the 2017 Founders Bursary Recipient, Grace
Home for me is a wheat farm just north of a tiny town in the Riverina called Coolamon. So moving from a lot of dirt and space to a lot of buildings and cement (i.e. Sydney!) has been a big change to say the least. But coming to College has made it a good one. I miss the farm and my family but I've definitely found a home-away-from-home in being at New College.
College is a super easy environment in which one can make friends. In fact College O-week was more like "enforced friend-making week". The many student-run subcommittees have enabled me to involve myself in various extra-curricular college activities including college netball, water polo and swimming. I've also really enjoyed participating in college services each fortnight and a college bible study each Thursday night. Both are run right here in college, both have enabled me to grow in my faith, and both involve supper, always a bonus.
I study Medicine, and being a first-year, I have really appreciated weekly tutoring. The convenience of having some fantastic older Med students in college willing to help us freshers out in these sessions has been invaluable.
I'm currently in year one of UNSW's Medical program and hope to return to country NSW to continue the latter half of my 6-year degree. The long term plan is to end up practicing medicine somewhere in country NSW.
I'm so grateful for the financial support of the Founders Scholarship and would like to sincerely thank the Board of New College for the opportunity I have to live at College because of it.
