CENTRE FOR APOLOGETIC SCHOLARSHIP & EDUCATION (CASE) New College established the Centre for Apologetic Scholarship and Education (CASE) in November, 2002. CASE grew out of the work of the former Institute for Values Research that was founded by the Rev Dr Bruce Kaye in 1987. The Centre applies biblical frameworks to our understanding of everyday issues. Using Christian faith and the gospel of Jesus as the basis of argument, CASE provides a Christian perspective on matters of relevance to all people. It does this by engaging people of all persuasions in dialogue, debate and discussion concerning contemporary issues of broad interest. |

The Centre has a particular interest in issues that are relevant to the students resident in College as well as the University more generally, and attempts to promote discussion and thought concerning these issues.
The name chosen for the Centre reflects these desires. In New Testament times, an apologia was a formal courtroom defence. Christian apologetics has been seen traditionally as formal argument in defence of a Christian view of the world, and in particular the defence of Biblical truth claims. But the Centre's aim is to do more than simply defend the truth of the Bible. Rather, in starting from a position that accepts the Bible as God's inspired word to us, it seeks to apply biblical frameworks to our understanding of everyday issues. Hence, Christian faith are the basis of argument, and the perspective that is brought to bear on contemporary issues.
CASE undertakes research, produces publications, has a network of people interested in apologetic scholarship, runs educational courses and programs, produce a variety of publications, and create forums for discussion, debate and dialogue.
