Dr James Pietsch (NC 1988-1991, 1993)After serving with great distinction as Dean of Residents for seven years Dr James Pietsch will leave us at the end of 2009. The College is sad to be losing James, Margie, Samuel, Caleb and Greta. The entire family has been a great asset to New College. They are well loved and will be missed by the whole College community. We wish James and his family well as they pursue the next stage of their lives. James has accepted the position of Head Teacher of Mathematics at St Luke’s Grammar School which is located in Dee Why. As a valued Alumni member this will be the second time that James (NC 1988-1991, 1993) has left New College. James was a New College Tutor in 1991. He was also a Tutor in 1993. James enjoyed his time at New during Bruce Kaye’s Mastership; he formed strong friendships and has fond memories of his time as a resident. James studied Science at UNSW graduating with honours in 1992. He completed a Diploma of Education at the University of Sydney in 1993. After leaving New and UNSW James completed his study, he then went on to become a teacher from 1994 to late 2002, teaching at Bankstown Girls High School and St John’s Park High School as well as casual tutoring and lecturing at the University of Sydney. James did graduate studies, completing a Masters in Philosophy of Education at the University of Sydney in 2000. He completed a PhD in Mathematics Education in 2005 and was awarded his doctorate that year. The Master and others will have a lot more to say towards the end of the year to properly farewell James and the Pietsch family. The College will formally say goodbye to the Pietsch’s towards the end of the year. |
